- The PAC Network organized a roundtable on extensive livestock farming at "Presura 2025," the national fair for the repopulation of rural Spain.
Livestock farmers shared real-life experiences at the roundtable discussion "Living off the land without exhausting it: experiences from extensive livestock farming."
Likewise, the PAC Network was present with its own stand during the three days of the fair in San Martín del Rey Aurelio (Asturias).
The PAC Network actively participated in the "National Fair for the Repopulation of Rural Spain, Presura 25 ," held from October 3 to 5 in San Martín del Rey Aurelio (Asturias), organizing a roundtable entitled "Living off the Countryside without Depleting It: Experiences from Extensive Livestock Farming ." The event brought together professionals from the livestock sector to share what extensive livestock farming means, how they address the challenges of the territory, and why it is key to showcase sustainable food production models in rural areas. In addition, the PAC Network had its own information stand to showcase its resources and activities to the public throughout the weekend.
The round table: voices from the countryside that care for the territory
The event organized by the PAC Network as part of "Presura 25" brought together leading figures in extensive livestock farming, such as Aida Rodrigo, Andrés Gómez, and María Pía Sánchez, in a discussion led by Montse Fernández. Under the title "Living off the land without exhausting it: experiences from extensive livestock farming," the speakers shared their experiences, lessons learned, and challenges in managing farms that respect the rhythms of nature and are committed to sustainability. The roundtable offered an honest and committed look at how to live off the land without exhausting it, and was one of the most highly valued opportunities among attendees.
The key figures chosen by the PAC Network for the panel have every reason to speak with authority on this topic:
The moderator, Montse Fernández , is an organic dairy farmer in Tineo (Asturias), mayor of the municipality and president of AFAMMER Asturias .
Andrés Gómez , an agricultural engineer and livestock farmer at Granja Zael (Burgos), uses a rotational grazing model without the use of feed or sheds, which generates grass-fed meat through regenerative livestock farming techniques.
María Pía Sánchez , organic farmer in the Extremaduran pasture of La Rinconada , president of FEDEHESA (Spanish Federation dedicated to a unique ecosystem: La Dehesa) and a benchmark in holistic management and conservation of the dehesa ecosystem.
Aida Rodrigo is A livestock farmer and rural entrepreneur in Murias de Paredes (León), she leads the “OmañaCea” project with her partner , an extensive cattle farm with the native “Parda de Montaña” breed . Her model is based on the direct sale of organic meat through the “ Tu Ternera en Casa” platform , with full traceability from breeding to consumer.
Information stand: meeting point with the rural world
During the three days of the fair, the PAC Network had its own booth at the Presura 25 venue. This space provided access to the general public, agricultural sector professionals, and the resources, publications, and activities that the PAC Network makes available to rural areas.
Materials such as the PAC Network magazine, "Savia Rural," as well as informational brochures on the various CAP aid and modifications, and on the National Rural Women's Film Series , were available to attendees.
Thus, the stand became a meeting point for the exchange of ideas, the review of materials, and the strengthening of networks among stakeholders committed to the future of the field.
