On November 21st, the conference "Women, the driving force of rural development" took place in Blanca (Murcia), the objective of which was to promote, innovate, and enhance the value of rural women.
The Rural Network, in its commitment to promoting the visibility of rural women, organized this event to discuss topics such as Shared Ownership, female entrepreneurship and empowerment, and the support available to women who decide to start a business in rural areas. The event was attended by experts from various sectors, including education, public administration, private companies, and rural development associations.
The first part of the day focused on the various lines of action being pursued by various institutions and public administrations, highlighting measures taken to promote equal opportunities, such as Shared Ownership, establishing a rural population, and supporting women's entrepreneurship and leadership in rural areas. The presentations began with representatives from the General Directorate of Rural Development and Forestry Policy of MAPAMA and the General Director of Agricultural Funds and Rural Development of the Region of Murcia. The presentations then focused on achieving equal opportunities between men and women, with the participation of the Institute for Women and Equal Opportunities (MSSSI) and the General Director of Women and Equal Opportunities of the Region of Murcia.
In the second part, the experiences of rural entrepreneurship were presented by the women honored with the Excellence in Innovation Awards for Rural Women. The projects presented were Astursabor , El Kirinal Ecológico , and Masía Ana Intergenerational Agroecology .
The third section was dedicated to Local Action Groups and their important role as instruments for promoting and advising rural women. Groups from the Region of Murcia (GAL Vega del Segura, GAL – Rural Development Association CAMPODER, GAL – Association for Regional Development of the Northeast of the Region of Murcia) were present. They agreed on the importance of projects and initiatives led by rural women and youth and the need for support they receive through the measures established in the Rural Development Programs .
The day concluded with presentations by César García Pina, professor at the University of Murcia, and Maite Ambrós Mendioroz, Technical Advisor at the Support Unit of the Directorate General for Rural Development and Forestry Policy, on new technologies and their application in rural areas. Both emphasized the importance of intelligent use of these tools for natural resource management and innovation, as well as the development of the agri-food, livestock, and forestry sectors.
These workshops represent an excellent opportunity to disseminate the diverse work carried out by all stakeholders involved in rural development, to empower women through direct participation in these activities via the discussions that arise during the workshops, and to provide an ideal tool for motivating entrepreneurship among women pursuing careers in rural areas by learning about other success stories.
