• The Local Action Group (LAG) Gran Vega de Sevilla has promoted this initiative that encourages the participation of rural women in energy saving and responsible consumption actions

• The organization will produce a cookbook and a cookbook of products made with recycled materials, based on the knowledge of the local women.

Women are often the driving force behind rural development, preserving and passing on knowledge within their families and communities. However, their role in addressing various problems is sometimes underestimated.

In this context, the Local Action Group (LAG) Gran Vega de Sevilla Regional Association has developed the project “ Roots of Sisterhood: Women Who Care for the Planet ,” which aims to empower women over 50 years of age in the 13 municipalities of the area to take an active role in protecting against climate change . To this end, they highlight their role as “custodians and transmitters of sustainable practices in the family sphere and daily life.”

This initiative also aims to inform and raise awareness about the resources and tools available to contribute to energy saving, recycling, and responsible food consumption and utilization.

Actions for a more sustainable region

After an initial phase in which the organization analyzed the situation, in collaboration with associations, council departments and women's information points and centers, the following activities are being carried out.

• Creation of a Participation Council made up of representatives of the collaborating entities and the GAL technical team.

• A collection of recipes based on using leftover ingredients and consuming locally sourced resources. They accept contributions through their website.

• Creating healthy menus based on recipes.

• Workshops and recipe competition based on making the most of food.

• Information sessions, workshops, and seminars on energy saving, recycling, and responsible consumption have already taken place in some municipalities, and the Local Action Group (LAG) plans to continue them "after the summer" in the remaining towns, explains its coordinator, Elisa Isabel Guerrero.

• “ Climate Ambassadors ” program. Participants in the previous activities will receive this recognition.

• The " regional eco-challenges " program will aim to increase the recycling of organic waste in the region through a competition between municipalities to use the brown bin.

Once completed, the LAG will develop a best practices guide using the collected material and will present the results. The coordinator indicates that they have been able to extend the project deadline until next June.

Funded by the European initiative No Planet B

The project “Roots of Sisterhood: Women Caring for the Planet” is promoted by the Gran Vega de Sevilla Regional Association. This initiative is part of the European No Planet B program , implemented in Spain by the Andalusian Fund of Municipalities for International Solidarity (FAMSI) and co-financed by the Seville Provincial Council and the European Union through the DEAR program (Development Education and Awareness Program).

Since 2017, the European program No Planet B has supported around 90 initiatives from small and medium-sized civil society organizations in Spain, Portugal, Romania, Germany, Hungary, Poland, and Estonia. Its aim is to generate impact at different levels and promote economic and social behavior patterns aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals .
