A new national focus group on innovation in the economic sustainability of forest management is being called for.

July 19, 2016

The objective of this new focus group is to bring innovation to the forestry sector while improving the sector's own capacity to organize, structure, and cooperate in the implementation of new models for the harvesting, transportation, and marketing of forest products.

The theme chosen for the activities of the "National Focus Group on Forestry Innovation" is relatively broad, as it covers all aspects that can impact the economically sustainable use of all forest products, including wood in general, cork, resin, essential oils, game, and those currently marketed, as well as new forest products that could feed a niche market and are not yet exploited and marketed.

Following the example of the European focus groups and the "National Focus Group on Irrigation, Energy, and the Environment," two in-person meetings are planned, the first in mid-September and the second in late November. Intensive work will be conducted electronically between the first meeting and the end of the year, when the final results of the focus group will be published.

For efficiency reasons, the focus group will not exceed 25 people. They will be selected to represent all stakeholder groups interested in innovation in this field, the different geographic areas, the different positions in the value chain, and the different forest products.

Those interested who are able to contribute something to the group and wish to do so, should send the expression of interest ( download the expression of interest document ) before September 1, 2016 to idiagri@magrama.es
