01/02/2021. The Local Action Group "Asociación Colectivo para el Desarrollo Rural de Tierra de Campos" (Collective Association for Rural Development of Tierra de Campos) – which operates in the rural areas of Campos and Torozos (Valladolid) – is implementing the Civitas project within its scope. Among its objectives, the project aims to ensure that older adults receive home care so they can remain in their homes for their entire lives without having to be admitted to institutionalized residences.
- The "Civitas" project aims to provide elderly people with assistance at home to avoid having to stay in nursing homes.

The "Civitas" senior group is made up of three groups of people over 60 who meet biweekly in their respective communities. During these meetings, they discuss their needs and what care model seems most appropriate and suited to them. These meetings also raise awareness for the future, when there may be a loss of abilities due to age or other health reasons, so that people can identify for themselves when it's time to receive such care.
In first person
The Civitas project has received extensive support from the public and communications community throughout its development. A website has been designed to showcase the opinions and experiences of participants in the meetings.
Within this website, a "First Person" section has been created, which narrates the experiences of the people participating in the project and living in the municipalities of Campos and Torozos. Above all, this section currently focuses on the stories of seniors about the pandemic and how COVID-19 is affecting them in rural areas.
"In First Person" gives voice and image to the faces of these older adults who, while not yet in need of specific care, describe the changes they've experienced since the pandemic began, such as the shift in medical care (from in-person to online) and the reduction in visits from their immediate family members. The common thread running through all of their experiences is a heightened sense of loneliness and isolation.
The project is also disseminated through the GAL's social networks (specifically on Facebook ) and in its monthly newsletter ' La mar de campos '.
LEADER
The Civitas project is part of the LEADER Strategy 'Campos y Torozos 2020', adapted from "LEADER", Measure 19 of the Rural Development Program of Castilla y León 2014-2020 and managed by the Local Action Group "Asociación Colectivo para el Desarrollo Rural de Tierra de Campos".
In addition to a specific group for seniors, Civitas also works with working-age individuals who are unemployed or employed in precarious jobs, providing them with guidance on starting businesses related to the care and support of seniors in their rural areas.
