May 19, 2021. The Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, and Food (MAPA) has organized a workshop for the exchange of experiences between operational groups and innovative projects on precision livestock farming in rural areas. This workshop is part of the so-called "innovative Wednesdays," which aim to offer workshops for the exchange of experiences between innovative projects of the European Innovation Partnership for Productive and Sustainable Agriculture (AEI Agri).

  • The MAPA continues with its "Innovative Wednesdays," a series of workshops featuring innovative projects from operational groups on various topics of interest.
  • During today's meeting, with 133 registered participants, participants exchanged knowledge and experiences in precision livestock farming projects.

The day began by showing the context in which the AEI-AGRI innovation measures are being developed, both at European level through the Horizon 2020 program, and at national level through the rural development programming of the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) 2014-2020 . The results of the aid to supra-autonomous operational groups of the PNDR 2014-2020 have been highlighted, which have contributed to the creation of 177 supra-autonomous operational groups that have received a total of € 8.4 million and the execution, to date, of 68 innovative projects of general interest that have benefited from aid of around € 34 million.

The seminar served to present the "Precision Agriculture and 4.0 Technologies" line of the National Recovery, Transformation, and Resilience Plan, which seeks to:

  • Accelerate the modernization of equipment and the use of precision technologies for more efficient use of natural resources in production processes.
  • Replacing energy-inefficient equipment, increasing the sector's environmental performance .

Participants

The experience exchange presented the results of innovative projects from two regional Operational Groups (OGs) and two supra-regional ones, as well as two Horizon 2020 projects involving the participation of several countries.

  1. ClearFarm (Horizon 2020 Project): Design of an animal welfare monitoring platform for pigs and dairy cattle based on precision livestock farming.
  2. 4D4F (Horizon 2020 Project): Data Driven Dairy Decision For Farmers (a thematic network for dairy farmers, dairy technology providers, data companies, dairy advisors, veterinarians and researchers to improve decision-making on dairy farms based on sensor-generated data).
  3. GO MESRASA (PNDR): improvement of animal health collection and alert systems (creation of a veterinary syndromic platform).
  4. GO SIEGA (PNDR): Geographic Information System to assist in the management of extensive livestock farming.
  5. GO IXORIGUÈ (PDR of Aragon): increasing the profitability of livestock farmers thanks to digitalization.
  6. GO DEHESA (Andalusian PDR): improving the production and marketing of organic beef in the dehesa.

Following the presentation, a space for debate and exchange of opinions was offered, divided into two sections. The speakers answered questions from the audience. Afterward, the audience and speakers debated the question , "What are the main barriers that may exist when addressing a transformation of the livestock sector toward Livestock 4.0?" This provided an opportunity to share different perspectives, initiatives, results, progress, and experiences in the field.
