In its seventh edition, nearly a thousand professionals from the forestry sector met.
Organized every four years by the Spanish Society of Forestry Sciences ( SECF ), the seventh edition of the CFE ( Central Forestry Conference) was held in Plasencia (Cáceres) during the last week of June. This is the most important event for the forestry sector in Spain, aimed at professionals, both technicians and scientists. Its objective is to present the results of research and experiences in forestry science and technology achieved over the past four years, as well as to open a forum for debate on new proposals for improving forest management in Spain.
The CFE has a long history, which began in 1993 with the first meeting in Pontevedra , followed by congresses in Pamplona , Granada , Zaragoza , Ávila and Vitoria-Gasteiz .
For its 7th edition, the chosen theme was "Forest Management: Environmental Services and Bioeconomy" with the aim of highlighting the variety of services and their importance generated by forests, such as timber and non-timber production, the maintenance of biological diversity and fundamental ecosystem processes, which improve our living conditions.
This edition highlighted the contribution of renewable natural resources to the circular economy, which recycles, reuses, and reduces environmental impact. The conclusions are available in the PROCEEDINGS OF THE 7TH CFE .
For this edition, the Portuguese Society of Forest Sciences collaborated to establish alliances to strengthen the forestry sector in the Iberian Peninsula.
The next meeting is expected to take place in 2021, where discussions will continue on fires, forest management, hydrology, forest health, wildlife, forest products and industries, and protected areas, among other areas in which the forestry sector operates.
