~~Based on its experience working with women in rural areas, the Andalusian Regional Government considers efforts aimed at the practical empowerment of women to be of vital importance, articulated to facilitate their incorporation into both the decision-making bodies of Rural Development Groups and those of various organizations in the region, such as cooperatives, unions, associations, and federations. To achieve this, one of the formal measures was implemented: the obligation to comply with priority in the decision-making bodies of the Rural Development Groups (RDGs), thus guaranteeing a space for women's associations in the region. However, the reality is that women have not been participating as expected.
Therefore, fieldwork was conducted with the protagonists in the area, and the conclusion was reached that there are a series of informal behaviors and mechanisms that exclude women from areas of power, as well as from decision-making positions. The women demanded greater empowerment so they could feel capable of holding positions with the same equality as their male counterparts. Furthermore, the need for training in communication techniques was also emphasized, as there was a latent sense of frustration when they had to intervene in public spaces, where they felt uncomfortable due to their lack of experience, communication techniques, or public speaking skills. For this reason, a different course was proposed. Women don't need to know that they are a fundamental part of the rural environment and that without them there is no future; they already know that. Yet, despite this, they are systematically excluded from representative spaces.
This course aims to go one step further, placing rural women at the center through an active and participatory methodology to amplify their voices, as they make up more than half of the population.
These workshops aim to provide training through innovative, practical, and, above all, useful content for rural women, who are the ones that rural (and urban) environments need for their sustainability and, therefore, for their future.
~~The main objective of this activity is to promote the empowerment of women in rural areas, highlight their role in a socioeconomic context, and share success stories of rural women entrepreneurs that serve as a role model for other women.
Furthermore, activities involving rural stakeholders on such specific topics provide a forum for discussion of new strategies and courses of action, such as economic diversification and the inclusion of women and youth in the rural labor market.
Other specific objectives pursued with this activity are:
• The creation of networks among women, of spaces of sisterhood, of alliances.
• Promote gender equality by enhancing empowerment tools
• Promote and support empowerment in public policies
• Exchange of best practices and highlighting successful projects in rural areas, led and directed by women.
• Highlight the role of women in public and private institutions in decision-making and positions of responsibility
• Promote the incorporation of women and young people into economic activities in rural areas and encourage their entrepreneurship
To create a workspace where the needs and demands of the rural population, and women in particular, are presented, as well as the difficulties and obstacles they face in their daily lives.
