The European Commission , through the Directorate-General for Agriculture and Rural Development (DG AGRI) , is organizing the first EU Agri-Hackathon , an initiative that seeks to develop practical and innovative digital solutions that respond to the specific needs of farmers and contribute to simplifying their work.
The event will be held online from October 16-18, 2026 , and is aimed at farmers, data analysts, developers, researchers, entrepreneurs, students, agri-food professionals, and public policy experts , who will work together to develop innovative digital solutions to meet the real needs of farmers.
The hackathon is structured around three main challenges:
Less time with forms, more time in the field: digital tools to simplify and automate administrative tasks and reduce the bureaucratic burden.
Connecting data for smarter fields: solutions that facilitate the management of data from sensors, machinery and other devices to improve decision-making.
Flowing data, enhanced collaboration: tools that facilitate the exchange of information between farmers and other stakeholders, while maintaining control over their data.
Participants will benefit from mentoring sessions, networking with specialists, and opportunities to develop and refine their ideas during the event. Furthermore, the winning team will have the opportunity to present their project at EU Agri-Food Days 2026 , gaining visibility through European communication channels and a presence in the event's partner exhibition. Special mentions will also be awarded for the best solutions based on artificial intelligence and open-source development .
