The Ministry is analyzing with the working group on young farmers the lines of support to promote generational change in the agricultural sector.
The National Rural Network 's working group on young farmers has met to analyze the possibilities of aid to promote generational renewal , encouraging the establishment of young farmers within the scope of Rural Development Programs (RDP) .
Its objectives include identifying barriers to young farmers joining the agricultural sector and analyzing how rural development programs can address the goal of promoting generational renewal in the agricultural sector, in collaboration with other existing support programs.
At the meeting, held on 25 April, the results of the installation of young farmers in the RDPs of the previous programming period 2007-2013 (measure 112) were analysed, as well as the design and scope of the programming of this same measure in the current programming period 2014-2020 (submeasure 6.1) .
The results of this working group will contribute to the development of the future National Strategy for Rural Modernization and Diversification, within which women and youth will be key stakeholders, targeting a large number of initiatives. One of the goals of this strategy is to incorporate approximately 20,000 young people into the agri-food and forestry sector in the coming years.
The implementation of this national strategy for diversifying activities in rural areas is part of the Government's objective of addressing the specific problem of territorial depopulation in rural areas . This objective will be analyzed by the recently created Government Commissioner for the Demographic Challenge and the future National Strategy to Address the Demographic Challenge.
