The International Symposium "Empowering Women through Innovation in Mediterranean Agri-Food Systems" will be held from June 10 to 12 and is organized by CIHEAM Zaragoza and the Union for the Mediterranean (UfM), in collaboration with the CIHEAM General Secretariat and with the support of the Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation (AECID). This scientific, technical, and professional event will bring together representatives from FAO, IFAD, the OECD, the European Commission, ICARDA, IWMI, PRIMA, the Global Water Partnership Med, as well as stakeholders from civil society, the business sector, and the innovation sector.

The symposium is open to in-person and online participation (subject to registration) and will be held in Spanish and English with simultaneous interpretation.

The symposium will offer a comprehensive and interactive program focused on identifying and promoting effective solutions for women's empowerment in the Mediterranean agri-food sector. It will include:

• Lectures by high-level experts from international and national organizations, such as FAO, IFAD, OECD, the European Commission, ICARDA, and IWMI, along with representatives of civil society and the business community.
• Roundtable discussions on the key challenges facing women in the Mediterranean agri-food sector, including education, economics, and access to resources to strengthen their empowerment.
• Case studies showcasing inspiring examples of women-led empowerment and innovation in Spain and the Mediterranean region, with a special focus on initiatives by female entrepreneurs.
• Interactive workshop on social and technological innovation for women entrepreneurs in the agri-food value chain. This space will allow for presenting women-led business initiatives, sharing experiences, and networking.
• Field visits to learn about local initiatives run by women, with the goal of gaining insight into specific experiences of success and impact, and demonstrating the key role of women as agents of change in their communities.

This symposium will be a space for dialogue and collaboration, promoting strategic alliances among the stakeholders involved. By bringing together representatives from the public and private sectors, international organizations, research institutions, civil society, entrepreneurs, and professionals, the event will foster synergies and sustainable solutions for women's empowerment and innovation in Mediterranean agri-food systems.
